Who is the Vehicle Safety Coalition?

Texans deserve to feel safe on the roads they drive every day. The Vehicle Safety Coalition (VSC) is a 501(c)4 advocacy organization created to educate and engage the public on policy decisions that impact the safety of drivers, passengers, and vehicles that operate on our roadways. Vehicle Safety in Texas

Currently, Texas requires yearly vehicle inspections to protect drivers and passengers across the state from sharing the road with unsafe cars.

Fortunately for us, the state of Texas has recognized the dangers unsafe vehicles pose to drivers and passengers. The inexpensive inspection process provides a safeguard by checking the functionality of basic safety features and can even alert owners of open recalls they may not be aware of otherwise. However, these commonsense safety checks are in jeopardy of being wiped out.

Keeping Up with Evolving Transportation

New transportation options and technological advancements have revolutionized how we get from Point A to Point B.

As Texans, we value independence. We love our cars and driving on the open road. However, with so many people operating vehicles, we recognize that this freedom does not come without potential dangers. New transportation options, such as electric scooters and self-driving cars and other technological advancements, have both broadened and complicated our relationship with driving. While issues such as distracted driving have rightly gained national attention, we must also fully consider the roadworthiness of the vehicles themselves. As cars become more technically complex and autonomous, inspection of these vehicles for basic safety will become even more critical.
